Our volunteer FAA certified ground instructor teaches explorers everything they will need to know about being a pilot; from aerodynamics and weather to federal regulations and aeronautical decision making.

Ground school occurs at 8:30am every Saturday during the school year, usually between Labor Day to Memorial Day.

Ground School

The first step in learning to fly

Explorers can study at their own pace with the goal of passing the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge test. It generally takes about two years of ground school to learn all the material. Once the knowledge test is passed the explorer can begin flight training.

Ground school is a great opportunity for Explorers to meet others in the area with a common interest in aviation.

Materials needed to participate are provided with registration including a Sectional Chart Plotter and E6B Flight Computer.
