Ground school begins each Saturday morning at 8:30. Classes last an hour, and progress from the basics to more advanced topics such as Meteorology, Navigation, and Aircraft Systems. The course schedule roughly parallels the school year, with a small break over the Christmas/New Year holidays, and a longer break over the summer. In the fall, we traditionally have a 2-day intensive review which prepares students to schedule and take their FAA Private Pilot Written Exam. A score of 70 percent or better on the written qualifies them to start dual flight instruction. They are assigned a flight instructor, and begin one-on-one training in the airplane.
Post 8 uses Rod Machado training products, and as part of your son or daughter's enrollment fee, they receive a Private Pilot Manual text book, an E-6B flight computer, and a navigational plotter. For the intensive course, the Post utilizes the widely respected Irvin Gleim Private Pilot Written Exam Prep book.
If you are a parent, and would like to inquire about what your son or daughter is currently studying or about his/her progress, you may e-mail the instructor your questions and comments. If you would like to visit our class, please come with your son or daughter on any Saturday to see what they actually learn. Visitors are always welcome, and we're confident that you'll be very impressed with the material covered on any given day.
